P3 art and environment was launched in 1989 as part of the Bankizan Tochoji Temple’s 400th anniversary celebrations. P3 was a leader in producing and exhibiting contemporary expressions, from art on. Its site was the basement hall of Tochoji Temple, located in Yotsuya-4chome, Tokyo. Until P3 left Tochoji in 1999, it hosted numerous vanguard cultural events, including exhibitions by John Cage and Cai Guo-Qiang. After that, P3 ‘free-floated’ without a fixed site, planning and producing art projects everywhere in Japan. Tochoji has now asked P3 to take charge of its novel cultural and social projects, as the temple takes new directions.

April 26, 2014, marks the 25th anniversary of the birth of P3 in Tochoji’s underground Hall. We are planning a birthday bash for that day. The party will kick-off our future developments, and also debut our new site.
Welcome, old and new friends alike!
