CERTIFICATES FOR SUSTAINABILITY: MUST HAVE, NICE TO HAVE OR DON’T WANT TO HAVE?

PRESENTED BY GREEN EVENTS NETHERLANDS AS PART OF EPIC: THE EUROPEAN PRODUCTION INNOVATION CONFERENCE & FAIR

Friday, 16th January at Gasfornius, L1 – Panel Room, 16.30 – 17.30

As sustainability becomes more of an important issue for event organisers, the event sector is looking for the best ways to increase their sustainability. Many stakeholders are interested to see if and on what level the sustainability of an event is. In order to have a proper guideline, and at the same time the possibility to proof that the sustainability has reached a certain level, many event organizers are looking for certification of the sustainability of their event(s).

Currently there are a couple of certification / award schemes for event organisers available, so an organiser can choose. But how to make this decision? Are there differences between the available certification schemes? If so, what are the (dis)advantages? And what does it bring, apart from new chances in marketing?

In order to provide event organisers and -producers an overview so they can make their choice, Green Events Nederland hosts a panel with representatives of several (inter)national sustainability certification and award schemes. A must attend for all organisers and producers!

  • Erik van Dijk (Green Key, NL): National Operator of Green Key, the quality mark for sustainable accommodations (hotels, campsites, congress accommodations, groupstays and amusement parks).
  • Stephan La Haye (Barometer Sustainable Events, Stichting Duurzaam Organiseren, NL): Projectmanager at Barometer Sustainable Events and Manager strategies and concept development at Stichting Duurzaam Organiseren.
  • Helen Innes (A Greener Festival Award, GB): Director at A Greener Festival, a non-profit company committed to helping music and arts events and festivals around the world adopt environmentally efficient practices.
  • Chiara Badiali (Julie’s Bicycle, GB): Music Coordinator at Julie’s Bicycle, a non-profit company integrating environmental sustainability into the business, art, and ethics of the creative industries. Julie’s Bicycle run the sector-specific Industry Green Certification.
  • Moderator: Paul Schurink (Green Events Nederland, NL): Co-founder at Green Events Nederland, the Dutch platform for making events and festivals more sustainable. Green Events is there to inspire, connect and help organizers and suppliers to work in a more sustainable way.
